Basecoat the body and head in Black Cherry
Basecoat the arms and cuffs in Black Cherry
    Basecoat the mittens in Black
Basecoat the star in Antique Gold
(Remember to paint the sides as well as the fronts)
  • After the paint has dried, sand all pieces with the sandpaper or eversand and wipe with the tack cloth.
  • Using the tracing paper, transfer paper and stylus, trace the pattern.
  • Using a #4 flat/floater brush, base coat the face with Medium Flesh. When the first Coat of Medium Flesh is dry, apply a second coat. If the face looks like it needs another coat, remember to let the paint dry completely before putting on another.
  • Using a stippler or scruffy brush, stipple the cuffs, the ball on the hat, the brim of the hat and the bottom of the coat with Ivory.
  • To make the beard, use the #3 round brush. Pull teardrops from the cheeks down in Ivory. Let this dry completely.
  • Using the #00 liner brush, dry brush Ivory on the boots and mittens. (Indicated as ------- on the pattern.)
  • When the beard is dry, use the #3 round brush again to make the mustache. Using the Ivory paint, pull teardrops from the middle outwards. Let the mustache dry completely.
  • Using the # 4 floater brush, float candy bar brown above the brim of the hat and in the fold of the hat. Float above the cuffs of the mittens, around the bottom of the bear and above the fur at the bottom of the coat in Candy Bar Brown. (Indicated as ////// on the pattern.)
  • Float with the Dark Flesh on Nick’s face with the #4 floater brush. (Indicated as ///// on the pattern.)

  • Using the #00 liner brush, line the coat and arms in Candy Bar Brown.
  • Using the #00 liner brush, line the coat and arms in Ivory right along side the Candy Bar Brown.
  • Stipple the cuffs, the brim of the hat, the ball of the hat and the bottom of the coat in Ivory again. Using the #4 floater brush and Quaker Grey paint, put a small float above the ball of the hat—floating up—see the pattern. (Indicated as /////.)
  • Using the #3 round brush and the Ivory paint, pull a second coat of tear drops on the beard. Let this dry.
  • When the beard is completely dry, put a second coat of teardrops on the mustache.
  • Dot the eyes in Black using the end of a #00 liner brush. When the eyes are dry, use the small end of the stylus and put one Ivory dot in each eye.
  • Dot the nose in Black Cherry using the end of a #4 floater brush.
  • Using the #00 liner brush, make small teardrops in Ivory for the eye brows.
  • Splatter paint all pieces in Black with the old toothbrush. Then splatter all pieces in Ivory.
  • When all pieces are completely dry, antique them using Down Home Brown antiquing.
  • Wire on the arms and stars.
  • Tie the fabric pieces around the star.
  • Glue on the boots and the buttons. Let dry.
  • Spray with matte spray varnish.
  • Sign, date and enjoy!
